Moroccan and French prime ministers call private operators to enhance partnership

Moroccan and French prime ministers, Abderrahmane Youssoufi and Lionel Jospin, chaired here Friday the opening session of a one-day session on economic partnership between the two countries' private sectors.
The session is held on the theme "delegated management of public utilities in Morocco and partnership opportunities in major sectors of the Moroccan economy." The two prime ministers launched to private economic operators of the two countries a call to get more involved in concrete investment projects likely to consolidate cooperation.
Jospin expressed his country's confidence in the kingdom's economy and in results of the democratic openness process led by Youssoufi's government, under the aegis of king Hassan II.
He added that this meeting will contribute to bilateral cooperation and partnership on new, modern and confidence bases. He called private businessmen to identify constraints and obstacles hindering the Moroccan economy in order to help Morocco succeed in its mutation.
He went on that France is resolved to remain Morocco's first economic partner and to carry on its financial support, mainly by assisting in Morocco's efforts to upgrade the competitiveness of its enterprises and alleviating the debt burden.
On his part, Moroccan prime minister surveyed his government's action, in the economic, financial and social sectors and renewed a call for new formulas to handle the issue of Morocco's external debt which hinders economic, social, political and human development.
He urged for an increased involvement of the private sector in the possibilities offered by France's debt reconversion and the delegated management of public utilities in Morocco. He reassured them that the government is planning to enforce a package of laws that will regulate the private sector's participation in infrastructure projects.
In addition to ministers member of the prime minister's delegation and French finance minister, the session was attended by leaders of major enterprises and heads of the Moroccan and French employers associations.
