Morocco and France decide to enhance political dialogue

Moroccan premier, Abderrahmane Youssoufi and French peer, Lionel Jospin, decided Friday to enhance political dialogue and consultation between the two countries regarding topical regional and international issues of common interest.

In a joint statement issued Friday in Paris at the end of the 2nd annual meeting of the Moroccan-French high cooperation commission, Heads of the Moroccan and French governments underlined the convergence of their views regarding all issues tackled during the commission's meeting which was instituted by French president, Jacques Chirac, and King Hassan II during the state visit paid by the sovereign to France in May 1996.

The commission, which convened last year its 1st meeting in Morocco, seeks to enhance solidarity and partnership between the two countries.

After underlining the importance of the new French aid package in sustaining Morocco's socio-economic development efforts, the two countries prime ministers voiced concern over the stalled Middle-east Process and over the persistence of armed conflicts in various regions in Africa.

The two sides agreed to carry on consultation and coordination for the establishment of peace and stability in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

They also agreed to sustain the Euro-Mediterranean partnership construction and coordinate actions regarding international issues such as UN reforms, disarmament and strategic matters.
