Eritrea denies taking part in Sudan battles

An Eritrean official negated yesterday the accusations of Sudanese government that Eritrea is involved in the battle that recently took place in southern Sudan.

The head of the Middle East and North Africa department in the Eritrean Foreign Ministry, Hamed Ahmed, said these battles are Sudanese affairs, with which Eritrea has nothing to do, adding that the accusations directed at his countries imply hostile intentions.

He also stated that Asmara had confirmed that the Sudanese forces are gathering in some regions of eastern Sudan on the Eritrean borders.

Ahmed said the Sudanese government has to review its policy which has proved to be the direct reason behind the instability of the African horn region.
