Iraqi trade minister arrives in Tehran
Iraq-Iran, Economics, 10/1/1998

Iraqi trade minister Muhammad Mahdi Saleh arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, leading an official delegation on a three-day official visit during which he will take part in the opening ceremony of the Tehran International Exposition today.

In an arrival statement, the Iraqi minister noted the two countries' desire to maintain commercial cooperation relations. He hoped his talks with his Iranian counterpart would open new prospects for bilateral cooperation.

Relations between the two countries are proceeding towards normalization, ten years after war between the two sides came to an end. In January, this year, Tehran, and Baghdad agreed to settle their suspended problems in the context of two committees. The first is in charge of humanitarian issues, including matters relating to war prisoners and the fate of the dismissed, and the second committee is in charge of issues pertaining to trade and visits to holy shrines, according to UN Security Council resolutions.
