Lebanese and Israeli forces clash in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 9/30/1998

Lebanese resistance forces on Monday attacked Israeli armored vehicles moving near the occupation area in Sujoud. One of the vehicles was destroyed.

A statement released by the resistance said that resistance forces attacked the vehicles with rockets. It added one of the enemy tanks opened fire, following the attack, against al-Rafee mountain in al-Tuffah district. The tank was attacked by resistance fighters using rockets. Direct hits were achieved.

Security sources in south Lebanon said that an explosion took place on Monday in a center for the Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army and Israeli troops in Jezzine. The sources gave no other details.

Earlier in the day, the villages of the Talousa area in south Lebanon protested on Tuesday against Israeli shelling last Saturday which resulted in setting fire to all surrounding forests. The villages said the fire burnt olive trees and many crops planted in the area to the borders of Haula town. Officials in the Lebanese government and other bodies were urged by the villages to examine the fire catastrophe and eventual loss of property.

Further reports said that the Lebanese resistance said on Tuesday that one of its groups clashed with a joint Israeli and pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army force in the area situated between Ebel al-Saqqi and Khiam in the occupied part of south Lebanon. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said the confrontation resulted in killing militiaman Nidal Naser, while another was taken prisoner.

On Monday night, Israeli occupation forces bombarded the woods of Sujoud al-Raihan and al-Refaee mountain in the al-Tuffah district. News reports from south Lebanon said the Israeli bombardment targeted the outskirts of Kafra, Yater, Majdal Zoun, Khurbet Soloum and al-Qeysiyeh valley towns. The Israeli bombardment resulted in material damage in the area.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation troops released UNIFIL employee Mahdi Mahdi from south Lebanon, after holding him for 15 days.
