Japanese Yamaha decides to enhance presence in Morocco

The Japanese Yamaha group has decided to enhance its presence in Morocco by joining its exclusive representation and distribution with the "MIFA" society, which has been Yamaha Motors' exclusive partner in Morocco for over 30 years.

An executive of MIFA, Khadija Sijilmassi, explained that Morocco's liberal economy, geographic location at the crossroads between Europe, Africa and the Middle East, the growth of its market, and its industrial subcontracting capacities are all attractive elements that might make of the country an important launch pad for trade with Africa and Europe.

Since 1970 when MIFA (Marocaine Industrielle, Financiere et Agricole) became exclusive agent of Yamaha Motors Co. Ltd, it has been increasing its shares in the market of Yamaha products thanks to the creation of a wide network of distributors of engines for speedboats used in fishing and entertainment, motorcycles, jet-boats, jet-skis, pumps and generators.

The partnership was further consolidated with the building of a modern plant to be dedicated next October 25 near Casablanca. The plant will manufacture several models of motorcycles, including low-cost motorcycles at an annual average capacity of 15,000 units.

MIFA, established in 1947, manufactures equipment for mining and construction, professional fishing and agriculture and assembles motorcycles. In 1997, it posted a turnover of seven billion dollars.
