Morocco calls for enhanced international cooperation in civil aviation
Morocco, Business, 9/26/1998
Head of the Moroccan delegation to the 32nd assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization "ICAO," currently held in Montreal, has called for the consolidation of cooperation between the ICAO member countries in civil aviation safety and technical training.
The 185 member-countries should enhance partnership in aircraft maintenance and engine overhauling, the Moroccan delegate said.
He also affirmed that several developing countries pin great hopes on the ICAO technical assistance to regulate and organize air transport systems and launch civil aviation development projects.
The Montreal-based ICAO opened early this week its 32nd assembly with the participation of 700 delegates.
Participants are reviewing the organization's past activities, its future budget and a number of issues related to noise, aircraft emissions and taxes and environmental royalties.
Participants will discuss year 2000 computer bug (Y2K problem) and smoking restrictions on international flights.
The assembly, to wind up on October 2nd, will also debate measures to improve the organization's performance, implementation of new technical cooperation policy, computerized booking systems and the ratification of international aviation rights instruments.
