Zeroual urges preparation for elections to continue the democratic progress

Algerian President Liamine Zeroual asked his government to start preparing for early presidential elections to be held next February.

The president added, "I asked Prime Minister Ahmed O'yehia to take all the necessary procedures to reactivate the national committee authorized to arrange for the elections.

Algerian sources said the president asked the prime minister to facilitates all methods to guarantee the success of these elections, calling for intensive participation in the elections to continue the democratic progress currently achieved by Algeria.

Algerian President Liamine Zeroual surprised many by announcing a call for early elections in which he has decided not to run for office.
