Algerian ruling party to specify date for its conference

The Algerian Democratic National Rally will announce on Thursday the date on which it will convene its conference to elect the party's head who will be the party's candidate in the upcoming presidential elections.

The source said the military bodies held communications with national figures to discuss the candidates in the presidential elections.

The Movement for a Peaceful Society convened yesterday and decided to keep the works of the executive bureau open to discuss new developments in the situation and to take the proper positions and actions. The party announced that it was surprised when it heard that President Liamine Zeroual had decided to hold early elections, in which he would not participate.
