Fish come to the rescue of Jordan's water pollution crisis

The Jordanian Zai station for water purification has used different kinds of fish in a "biological" effort to eliminate organic items and pollutants. This new measure helped in solving the two-month Jordanian water pollution crisis.

Jordanian Minister of Water and Energy Hani al-Mulki said that water filtration experts used different types of fish "as a biological treatment so as these fish will feed on organic materials before the chemical filtration" process.

The Jordanian minister added upon visiting water springs, filtration and storage centers that his ministry "which has embarked on different water treatment methods," could fundamentally solve the problem of water pollution.

Mulki said yesterday that he is to pay a visit at the end of the current month to Iraq to hold talks with Iraqi officials on reviving a project for using the water of the Euphrates River, a long-term project that was raised up for discussion in 1989, which would especially benefit northern Jordan.
