Cairo criticizes participation of a wanted person in Qatari TV program
Egypt-Qatar, Politics, 9/14/1998
Signs of a Qatari - Egyptian crisis surfaced as official circles in Cairo expressed their anger that the Qatari government allowed an Egyptian Islamic activist, sentenced to death in absentia in Egypt, to enter Qatari territories to participate in the television program "The Other Direction" broadcast by El-Jazira channel last Tuesday evening.
The circles stated that this is a breach of the Arab agreement for combating terrorism, signed by the Arab states' ministers of justice and interior during last April.
The channel broadcast the program from Doha in which Egyptian lawyer Adel Abdul Megeed Abdel-Bari, a refugee who traveled to Qatar from London, participated.
An Egyptian military court issued during last November a sentence in absentia against Abdel-Bari in the case known as the Khan El-Khalili case, in which which members of Islamic Jihad Group, led by Ayman Al-Zawahri who lives in Afghanistan, were accused.
