Britain for restoring normal relations with Sudan
Sudan-UK, Politics, 9/10/1998

Britain has expressed hope that full relations will be restored with Sudan after the two countries withdrew their ambassadors from their two capitals, after British Foreign Minister Tony Blair's supported the US military strikes against a medicine factory last month in Sudan.

A source at the British Foreign Office speaking on condition of anonymity said that British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook is planning to meet with his Sudanese counterpart during the meeting of the UN General Assembly by the end of this month in order to express Britain's interest in resuming relations with Sudan.

The source added that Britain had supported the US military strikes against Sudan and Afghanistan in public, but implicitly, doubts prevailed in the British foreign circles on the justifications behind striking the Sudanese medicine factory.
