Kuwait repeats accusations against Iraq
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 9/8/1998
Kuwaiti Defense Minister Sheikh Salem al-Sabah al-Salem on Monday accused Baghdad of being elusive concerning the question of the Kuwaiti prisoners who were lost during the Gulf crisis in 1990-1991.
In a press conference he held in Cairo, where he met with Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid, the Kuwaiti minister said that Iraq is untruthful in the question of the prisoners. "For eight years it has not given information, despite the fact we officially gave information about 128 prisoners to the Iraqi authorities," he said.
However, the Kuwaiti minister discussed with Abdul Meguid the question of the prisoners and the dismissed before he headed for Geneva to preside over the Kuwaiti delegation to the meetings of the tripartite technical committee (Kuwait, Iraq and the International Red Cross).
Kuwait, however, asks information about the fate of 600 prisoners, which it stresses is held by Iraq since its invasion of Kuwait in August 1990.
