Palestine, Local, 9/5/1998

Jewish settlers assaulted tens of Palestinian homes in the west bank city of Al Khalil (Hebron) on Thursday night, the official Palestinian Radio said Friday.

Palestinian eyewitnesses confirmed to ArabicNews.com in a phone call today that a "group of armed Jewish settlers with Uzis" formed organized patrols in cars and on foot in the ancient street of Al-Khalil last Wednesday causing horror among the Palestinian citizens of the city.

The radio report said the "hooligan" settlers from a settlement in the center of of Al-Khalil smashed the windows of Palestinian homes as Israeli security forces staged maneuvers in the city.

The radio report said the settlers have stepped up their attacks on Arab homes and residents of the city since Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited them recently after the death of Rabbi Shlomo Raanan ten days ago.
