El Guerrouj in Moscow to try and clinch share of Golden League prize
Morocco, Sports, 9/5/1998
Hicham El Guerrouj, Moroccan world record holder and world 1,500 meters champion, is taking part here in the finals of the Golden League in which he can clinch at least a share of the IAAF grand prize.
The competition is taking place this Saturday in the Loujniki stadium, which has a capacity of 60,000 seats.
El Guerrouj is one of four runners still in contention for a share of the $1 million jackpot divided among athletes who win each of their events at the six Golden League meetings plus today's final.
World women's 100 meters champion Marion Jones, American 400 meters hurdles champion Bryan Bronson and world 5,000 meters record holder Haile Gebreselassie are the other three athletes in contention for a piece of the golden jackpot.
Weather forecasts say the top temperature in Moscow will be no more than 10 degrees Celsius, making fast times unlikely.
