Non-Aligned Movement countries call for reform of United Nations
Regional, Politics, 9/4/1998

The 12th Non-Aligned Movement countries (NAM) summit closed works Thursday with the adoption of the "Durban Declaration" that calls for reforming and democratizing the UN system and international relations.

The submitters in Dublin, South Africa voiced concern regarding the adverse international economic environment and mainly globalization which widens the gap between rich and developing countries.

The "Durban Declaration" called for the reinforcement of the North-South Dialogue and partnership and condemned Israel for its refusal to abide by international legality and respect the peace accords signed with Palestinians.

The NAM members stressed the need to convene an international conference on terrorism under the UN Aegis and voiced concern regarding the development of nuclear and mass destruction weapons.
