Palestinians not pleased with Arafat's new government

A questionnaire run by the general commission of the Palestinian official information revealed that most Palestinians are not satisfied with the government formed by President Yasser Arafat last month.
It doubted the ability of the government to fight corruption and eliminate errors. Some 57.9% in Gaza Strip said they are not pleased with the new government, against 39.5% who expressed contentment, whereas 58.6% in the West Bank said they are not pleased, while the other 34.6 % said they are pleased with the new government performance.
Others abstained from giving their views. Some 70.5% from the Gaza Strip and 72.2% from the West Bank supported trying members of the previous government who were accused of corruption.
Some 47.3% in the Gaza Strip and 51.9% in the West Bank said the new government will not be able to fight mistakes, against 32%, whereas 31.9% in the two regions expressed belief the new government will be able to perform well. Some 72.1% in the Gaza strip and 76.6 % in the West Bank expressed a desire for a fundamental change in the government.
