Israeli peace movement against settlements in occupied Arab lands
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 9/2/1998
The Israeli Peace Now movement has stressed that setting up settlements in the occupied Arab territories is simply a political objective, rather than security objective, as claimed by successive Israeli governments. The remarks came in a statement released on Tuesday commenting on the plan of the Israeli government to build a security wall around 21 settlements in the West Bank as part of the security measures intended to protect the settlers.
The statement added that the presence of the settlers "did not ensure security for the Israelis. On the contrary the Israelis have become more vulnerable to additional attacks," Israeli army radio reported.
