Sudan adheres to inspection call for US-raided factory
Sudan, Politics, 9/1/1998

Sudan permanent representative at the UN, al-Fateh Bin Orwa, reiterated his country's continued desire to dispatch a UN fact-finding commission to Khartoum in order to get acquainted with the US claims, which say the pharmaceutical factory hit by the US produced medicines for Sudanese citizens.

In a statement to the BBC on Monday, the Sudanese representative added that his country is persistent to prove before world public opinion the thruth of the US position. He called upon the UN Security Council to shoulder its full responsibilities and meet the Sudanese request.

He also stressed Khartoum's determination to submit this case before the Non-Aligned Movement summit due today in South Africa.

Meanwhile, well-informed sources in Durban, South Africa stressed that representatives of the NAM, meeting on the level of experts in South Africa, are inclined to condemn the US attack against Sudan. The sources were quoted as saying that a draft project discussed by NAM experts would have been submitted to the foreign ministers of the NAM calling for condemning the US attack against Sudan.

On Sunday, the Sudanese delegation submitted to NAM's 12th summit a draft resolution condemning the US missile strike against a suburb in Khartoum.

Meanwhile, Sudanese Information Minister Ghazi Salah Al-Din on Monday stopped in Amman on his way back from Libya and Malta. In talks he held with his Jordanian counterpart, Nasser Joudeh, the Sudanese minister discussed bilateral relations, especially in the media fields.
