Confrontations continue in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 8/28/1998

One Lebanese resistance group today detonated an explosive charge against an on-foot patrol of the Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army on al-Jbein- Shetein road. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said the patrol was directly hit.

South Lebanon Army radio, on the other hand, admitted that one of its soldiers was wounded. According to figures given by Israeli sources, some 21 South Lebanon Army militiamen have been killed and another 26 wounded since the beginning of this year in attacks by Lebanese resistance forces.

Meanwhile, an Israeli military spokesman announced that one Israeli soldier was wounded in a confrontation that took place earlier in the day in the occupied part of south Lebanon. The spokesman said that and explosive charge went off when an Israeli armored vehicle passed it. The explosion resulted in wounding the soldier and the vehicle was damaged, Israeli radio reported.

Further reports from south Lebanon said Israeli forces today renewed their attacks against areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli artillery shelled the northern sector of Toulin town, the eastern part of Majdal Zoun and Jib Sweid region and the surrounding areas.

The bombardment, which targeted Majdal Zoun town from the Israeli position in Teir Harfa, resulted in damaging the main and only water reservoir in the town.
