Moroccan UN human rights expert calls for lifting embargo on Iraq

A Moroccan UN Human Rights expert has called for lifting the sanctions imposed Iraq and urged the international community to alleviate the sufferings of the Iraqi people.
In a resolution filed at the UN Human Rights Sub-Committee convening in Geneva, the Moroccan expert said, "The embargo imposed on Iraq is a blatant violation of the Iraqi people's human rights."
The resolution, which was adopted by the UN committee, says sanctions should be imposed for a limited period of time and should be lifted in view of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Iraq.
