Morocco, Religion, 8/28/1998
A group of Muslim students from the U.S.A, Canada and Britain have undergone a month-long course on Islam, held at the traditional university "Al Qarawyine" in Fes by the Moroccan minister of Islamic affairs.
The 148-strong group comprises 71 American, 55 British and 22 Canadian students who attended eight hours a day courses on Arabic language and grammar, principles of Islam and reading out of the Koran, according to the Moroccan traditional fashion.
The students also attended lectures by theologians on the history of Islam in Morocco and the role of the city of Fes and of its ancient university "Al Qarawyine" in disseminating science and culture, as well as the contributions of Moroccan scholars to the Islamic cultural Renaissance.
