Syria free from poliomyelitis cases
Syria, Health, 8/28/1998
Syrian Health Minister Muhammad al-Shatti said that Syria has not found any new poliomyelitis cases since March 1995, due to the success of the national vaccination campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Health to eradicate poliomyelitis by the year 2000.
During the opening of the second coordination meeting on protection from cross-border infection with the poliomyelitis virus, Dr. al-Shatti stressed that a wide national vaccination campaign to end German measles will start in October.
He also indicated the importance of meeting to discuss the health situation in the joint border countries, Syria, Iran, Iraq and Turkey, and stressed the need to consolidate joint health services and intensify efforts to end the transfer of poliomyelitis from other areas.
