Jordanian - Iranian talks on financing water projects
Jordan-Iran, Economics, 8/28/1998
Jordanian-Iranian talks will start in the middle of September to finance water transfer from al-Deisi, located between Maan and al-Aqaba cities in southern Jordan, to the Jordanian capital Amman.
The cost of the project is estimated at US $1 billion. The Jordanian daily al-Doustour said the Iranian government shows special interest in providing necessary financing for the project, adding that Iran will build a water-transferring pipe factory.
The paper quoted the executive president of the Jordanian league for international economic cooperation as saying the Iranian government will finance 50% of the project's total cost, and other financing from European parties will provide the second half, SANA reported.
