Bombing suspect cause US pressure on Yemen to suspend passports
Regional-USA, Politics, 8/28/1998

US Attorney General Janet Reno said that Yemeni native Muhammad Rashid Dawoud Al-Owhali, also known as Khaled Salem Saleh Bin Rashid, who was taken on Wednesday to the US, will be tried under charges of murder before a federal court for being involved in the bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi on August 7.

Meanwhile, the director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Louis Freeh refrained from addressing an official accusation to another convict called Muhammad Sadeq Mawadeh, also known as Muhammad Sadeq Hweida. He elaborated he will announce his position within the "forthcoming 24 hours."

Freeh also stressed that Al-Owhali, considered one of exiled Saudi Osama Bin Laden's allies, was in the car which was carrying the explosive charge used in the bombing.

Also, Arab diplomatic sources in Sanaa said the Yemeni government gave in to US pressures as Yemen started to limit issuance of Yemeni passports for Arab citizens not of Yemeni origin.

The sources added that the Yemeni authorities have arrested some 20 Arab nationals carrying Yemeni passports after receiving reports that persons who involved in bombings the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were carrying Yemeni passports. The sources added that Arabs held by the Yemeni authorities are of Algerian, Egyptian and Palestinian nationalities.
