Norway to withdraw its contingent from south Lebanon
Lebanon-Norway, Politics, 8/26/1998
Norway announced on Tuesday that it will withdraw its contingent working within UNIFIL in south Lebanon before the end of the current year. A source at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry was quoted as saying the Norwegian contingent, which comprises 530 soldiers, will be withdrawn from Lebanon together with its logistic equipment during November and December of this year.
A Norwegian official explained that the number of Norwegian soldiers who are willing to serve outside the country reduced to one third, during the past years, a matter which pushed the government to reconsider the presence of its contingent in Lebanon.
