Iraq proposes help to Jordan settle water shortage
Jordan-Iraq, Economics, 8/26/1998
The Jordanian weekly "Jordan" said in its most recent issue that an Iraqi official has proposed an offer to the Jordanian government to settle its water crisis. The Iraqi proposal states to provide some 55 million cubic meters of water per year from al-Hadatha dam, near the Jordanian - Iraqi borders and pump it to Jordan.
The Iraqi official noted the cost for transporting the Iraqi water to Jordan equals only half the price of any proposed project and would save big sums for the Jordanian budget. The paper noted the problems facing the project are political rather then economic.
