Damascus: No security or peace with occupation
Syria, Politics, 8/25/1998
The assistant secretary general of the ruling Baath Party in Syria, Abdullah al-Ahmar, on Monday stressed that Israel "cannot get security and peace while perpetuating its occupation of the Arab territories."
He added that Damascus "clings to just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy resolutions, the land for peace formula and Israel's withdrawal to June 4, 1967 border lines, from the Palestinian territories and south Lebanon." Al-Ahmar went on that only such a peace would survive. He said Israel could not have peace and security while it still occupies Arab territories."
This was expressed during al-Ahmar's meeting on Monday with the delegation of the federal leadership of the Spanish United Leftist Alliance, chaired by the federal secretary of foreign policy in the alliance, Pedro Marcet, who is also a member of the European Parliament.
Members of the visiting delegation stressed that their visit would strengthen friendly relations and solidarity with Syria and its position toward achieving just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
