Baghdad: No more cooperation with UNSCOM
Iraq, Politics, 8/25/1998
Iraq informed the Arab League of its continued refusal to cooperate with members of UNSCOM weapons inspection teams who are looking for weapons of mass destruction, adding that Iraq presented all cooperation through seven-and-a-half years and it has nothing more to present.
Ambassador Nabil Negm, Iraq's delegate at the Arab League, said that he presented to Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid all figures confirming that the inspection committees had completed its work since Iraq's 1991 approval of resolution No 715, issued by the UN Security Council and the beginning of the continuous supervision operations in Iraq.
He said he confirmed to Abdul Meguid the importance of immediately applying item 22 of resolution No 687, which calls for lifting the economic sanctions against Iraq once the conditions for disarmament and inspection are fulfilled, expressing his hope for a collective position in support of Iraq's demands in this matter, because continuing the sanctions "negatively affects Arab national security in general."
