8% of Morocco's working women employed by the state

A study conducted by the Moroccan Center for Demographic Studies and Research found that 8 percent of working women in Morocco are employed by the state while the rate stands at 13.9 percent for men.
Based on Finance Ministry statistics for 1996, the study said that out of 414,573 civil servants, 132,341 are women, making up 32 percent of the state staff.
Most of these women work in the Education Ministry, which employs 77,273 women representing 32.7 percent of the staff, followed by the Health Ministry where 45.4 percent of its staff are women (17,900) and higher education which employs 5,937 women, accounting for 32.9 percent of its staff.
Regarding the age breakdown, the study reveals that 83 percent of these women less than 40 years old and 18 percent are above 50 years. Married women account for 57 percent, against 37.6 percent of singles and 1 percent of widows.
