More Israeli attacks against south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 8/24/1998

The Israeli occupation forces at dawn Sunday bombarded several towns and villages in the western Bekaa. Lebanese security sources said the bombardment targeted the towns of Burket al-Jabbour and Ein al-Tineh.

Israeli war planes flew over the Lebanese capital and broke the sound barrier. Israeli jets also flew over Rashaya and the Western Bekaa earlier in the day. The sound barrier was broken twice

Moreover, Israeli forces stormed the caves to the east of al-Habbarieh and al-Fredist, carrying out vast mopping up operations in the farms of Shabaa town and the orchards overlooking the highway which links Hasbaya village, Ein Qineh and Shoya Basha.

Meanwhile, Lebanese resistance forces monitored the moves of the Israeli occupation forces at midnight on Sunday in al-Debshah position in the occupied part of south Lebanon. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said that one of its groups targeted the Israeli movements inside the position with direct hits achieved.

On Saturday, the Lebanese army foiled an Israeli attempt to land soldiers by helicopter in al Kafour valley and the surrounding areas at dawn, Lebanon's official radio reported.

During Friday night the Lebanese army adopted security measures in several areas to prevent any Israeli landing during intensified flights by Israeli helicopters and warplanes over south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said three Israeli helicopters flew over al-Zahrani area, Jabshit and al-Hajir valley. Two Israeli helicopters also flew at low altitude over al-Tuffah district.

Further reports said Israeli troops violated the "April Understanding" agreement, which bans launching military attacks from or against populated areas or against civilians. Lebanese security sources said that on Saturday the Israeli position in al-Zaffata bombarded the hills of al-Tuffah district, the town of Arab Salim, the al-Tasse river area, the woods of Sujoud, al-Rayhan, Aqmata farm, Mleita, Lweiseh and al-Rafee mount.

Meanwhile, the secretary-general of Hizbullah party, Hassan Nasrallah, stressed the Lebanese resistance's commitment to defending the Lebanese people, civilians and installations. On recent Israeli threats to bomb Lebanese infrastructure and utility companies (electricity, phone, water, services) Nasrallah affirmed the Lebanese resistance's readiness to carry out any operation that stresses its commitment on this level.
