Fundamental changes in Syrian-Lebanese relations

The Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas issued today quoted a high-ranking Lebanese political source as saying that the mechanism of Syrian-Lebanese relations will witness in the next phase a fundamental change, in that these relations will be monitored by the president in person.

The source told al-Qabas that the system of random visits carried out by Lebanese officials to Syria will be stopped. The Syrian officials will only receive Lebanese officials who are officially delegated. The source added that senior Syrian officials want to reconsider this mechanism because the current system has inflicted damage on Syria itself, showing her divided in the Lebanese details.

The source expected Salim al-Hoss to be assigned the post of finance minister in the coming phase.

In another story, the paper added that the president of the republic will be a decisive one, whereas the Parliament speaker and the prime minister will be active within his field of responsibilities.
