Two Israeli soldiers killed in south Lebanon

Two Israeli soldiers were killed and their armored vehicle was burnt when Lebanese resistance forces detonated an explosive charge as the vehicle passed in the occupied part of south Lebanon.
Lebanese security sources said that two other Israeli soldiers were wounded during a series of attacks carried out by the Lebanese resistance against the Israeli forces in south Lebanon on Thursday night. The Lebanese resistance announced responsibility for the attacks.
Meanwhile, an Israeli military spokesman today acknowledged that the two Israeli soldiers -- one a sergeant -- were killed in confrontations that took place on Thursday night between the Israeli occupation forces and the Lebanese resistance near al-Shqif castle in the occupied part of south Lebanon, according to Israeli radio.
The radio report added that the deaths of the two soldiers had provoked Israeli Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai and chief of staff of the Israeli Army, Shaol Mufaz, to convene an urgent meeting to discuss the military conditions in the occupied part of south Lebanon.
Since the beginning of 1998, some 12 Israeli soldiers were killed and another 78 wounded in operations carried out by the Lebanese resistance in the occupied part of south Lebanon.
Moreover, Lebanese resistance sources told SANA's correspondent in Beirut today that one of its groups has implanted a huge explosive just 150 meters from the entrance of the military base. The sources added that at almost midnight Thursday when the Israeli soldiers were exchanging shifts, the resistance fighters detonated the explosive charge. In the aftermath, they attacked the Israeli forces.
Israeli armored vehicles were directly hit at the battle field and the occupation forces could not withdraw them The sources added that at 1 a.m.Friday after the explosive went off, the Israeli forces evacuated their casualties. One resistance group attacked the Israeli forces, scoring direct hits.
