US administration adopts new regulation to liberate Moroccan tomato imports
Morocco-USA, Economics, 8/21/1998
The US Department of Agriculture has announced an amendment of the regulation on Moroccan tomato exports that will liberate their trading on American markets.
A statement from the US embassy in Morocco said this was achieved following arduous negotiations between Moroccan and American institutions within the frame of the "US trade and investment framework agreement."
The USA presently imports 15 percent of its annual supplies of fresh and canned tomatoes, mainly from Mexico and western Europe. The US policy gives to Moroccan farmers and exporters the opportunity to access the American market, promote their exports and increase the flow of hard currency to Morocco, the statement said.
