Morrocan King: Education reform is crucial for the future generations and employment
Morocco, Education, 8/21/1998

King Hassan II stressed on Thursday evening the need to settle the issues of education and employment, pointing out that these two sectors are a "driving force without which Morocco will not gain any battle."

In a speech he delivered Thursday evening on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, the Moroccan king said preparations are underway to address these two issues "to upgrade the kingdom to the aspired level and lead Morocco to Prosperity."

King Hassan II stressed further the need to draw the appropriate lesson from this anniversary to carry on the combat for the benefit of the young generations, pointing out that education and employment are the sectors which call on us "to show creativity and imagination"

"Education is the basis of any action while employment ensures dignity to the children of this blessed land," the king said, noting that the moves to be made in this regard will not be easy but they "will have tangible impacts on the future of our children, on our prosperity and dignity and on our entry in the next century."

King Hassan II underlined further the significance of the Revolution of the King and the People during which the Moroccan people showed to the colonizer and to the whole world its unity and cohesion with the throne. The Moroccan people, the king said, proved that it is not only capable of taking up past challenges but also future ones as well that will result in victories.

The revolution which united the throne and the people in a common struggle for the country's independence, sovereignty and unity, ignited when the French colonizer ventured on august 20, 1953 to exile the legitimate sovereign of Morocco, late King Mohammed V, and replaced him by a puppet in a bid to keep control over the Kingdom. The Moroccans staged a widespread popular resistance which did not end until the triumphant return of the legitimate sovereign on November 16, 1955.

The call by King Hassan II for shedding light on the need to improve the education system, viewed as essential for modern development, comes on the heel of a political reform initiative that the King has initiated in Morroco and that resulted in having an opposition party in control of the government.
