Zeroual: Security conditions in Algeria improve
Algeria, Local, 8/21/1998
Algerian President Liamine Zeroual stressed that the security conditions in Algeria are improving rapidly in comparison to previous years.
In a speech he delivered on Thursday broadcast by Algerian television on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the beginning of the "War of Independence", the Algerian president urged the Algerians to help foil attacks carried out by extremists and gunmen. He added that the reforms in Algeria already begun to liberate its economy will continue.
Meanwhile, Algerian security sources said some 13 persons were killed and another 39 were reported wounded on Thursday morning as a result of a bomb explosion in the public square of al-Khamis town near Ein al-Defleh, southwest of Algiers. The security sources added that seven of the wounded are in critical condition.
Algerian security forces hurried to the explosion site and urgent medical aid was given to the victims.
On Wednesday, three persons were wounded when a bomb exploded in Beer Murad market in the Southern suburb of Algiers. Algerian dailies published on Thursday added that four persons were killed on Wednesday in Ein Defleh, and Burj Manayel in eastern Algeria.
