Explosion near security building in Yemen
Yemen, Local, 8/21/1998
An explosion was reported to have taken place near the wall of the headquarters of Yemeni security in the city of Zenjabar on Wednesday. No casualties were reported.
The Yemeni daily al-Thawri, mouthpiece of the opposition Yemeni socialist party, said that an explosive was implanted in the wall. The paper added that the shelling also hit the neighboring houses in the city, which is 5.5 km east of Aden.
Another explosion took place last week near the wall of the political security administration in the city of Lord, 130 km north of Zenjabar. Damage was inflected against the headquarters and neighboring buildings.
The paper accused Yemeni security forces of arresting a member of the Socialist Party in the region and the correspondent of a Yemeni daily for publishing news of the explosion.
Meanwhile, the Yemeni Minister of the Interior Lt. Gen. Hussein Harb announced that a network of 22 Yemenis who carried out a series of explosions in southern Yemen last month were arrested. He said the explosions resulted in killing five persons.
He added that the network was working for foreign interests, but did not identify the foreign parties. Sanaa accused Yemeni opposition members who reside abroad as being behind the explosions which targeted governmental institutions and businesses.
