Mordechai calls for peace accord with Syria
Syria-Israel, Politics, 8/19/1998
Israeli Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai has invited Syria for a dialogue so as to reach a peace accord, AFP reported. This was expressed during his tour of occupied south Lebanon on Tuesday.
In statements to reporters following his tour, Mordechai said "We prepare our troops for any emergency. But at the same time we do not want to get into an armed conflict with the Syrians. On the contrary we want to reach a peace agreement." Later in the day, Mordechai inspected Israeli troops in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
