Arab League calls for for Somali reconciliation conference soon

The Arab League sent messages to the Somali leaders Ali Mahdi Mohammed and Hussein Aideed urging them to set a date for convening the conference for Somali reconciliation in Bidadah city.

The messages praised the steps taken by the Somali leaders concerning forming a joint administration for the capital Makhdisho, its harbor and the airport as well as establishing an independent judicial council.

The assistant secretary general of the Arab League for Somali affairs, Ahmed Ben Holi told ArabicNews.com that Arab League Secretary-General, Dr.Esmat Abd El-Magid praised in his messages on the steps taken by Mahdi and Aideed to administer the capital.

The deputy assistant Egyptian minister for African affairs, Fayza Abu El-Naga said the steps taken by the Somali leaders come in implementation of the Cairo agreement which was reached at the end of last year.
