Iran receives Iraqi refugees
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 8/19/1998
Iran started yesterday procedures to receive a new group of Iraqi refugees who have lived in the Saudi Rafha camp since 1991 and wanted to move to and live in Iran.
Iran's ambassador in Riyadh, Mohammed Reda Nouri, told ArabicNews.com that this process took place in association and in coordination with Saudi Arabia and the U.N. High Commission for Refugees.
He said he doubted the accuracy of the number of those who reportedly moved to Iran (3,500), while Iranian sources told ArabicNews.com that the number is 300 Shiite Iraqis and that there are no other groups at this time.
