Resistance escalated in south Lebanon
Lebanon, Military, 8/19/1998

The Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday continued their attacks in areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon and its western Bekaa. Lebanese security sources said Israeli artillery positioned in Ein Qenyeh bombarded the outskirts of al-Daher mount and Memas crossing in the western Bekaa.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli artillery bombarded the outskirts of Yahmur, Hema, Arnoun, al-Hamra farm; al-Sawannah district, located between Qaqir al-Jasr and Zouter West; and al-Habboush river.

Meanwhile, an Israeli jeep and four other sedan cars visited the Israeli and Lahd's militia position in Zamraya in the western Bekaa. The visit coincided with mopping-up operations on Zamraya gate and the surrounding area. The mopping-up process was carried out by South Lebanon Army forces from the hills overlooking the area.

Further reports said Israeli troops also stormed al-Kelei town, where they arrested a Lebanese citizen on charges of having connections with the Lebanese resistance.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese resistance attacked Israeli patrols in the Zamraya and al-Shkif positions in the occupied part of south Lebanon. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said direct hits were achieved.

On Tuesday morning the Israeli troops shelled several towns adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources reported that the shelling also targeted Eastern and Western Zouter and Litani river.

Further reports said the Israeli occupation authorities displaced the Lebanese citizen Taleb Ahmad Asaad from Khiam town and took him to the outside of the occupied part of South Lebanon via the crossing of Kafr Tabnet. He was released after he spent more than 40 days in Khiam jail.

Moreover, Lebanese security sources said the enemy jets carried out mock provocative raids over al-Tuffah district villages. The planes were intercepted by Lebanese army and Lebanese resistance anti-aircraft fire.
