Hamas suspicious of the escape of Awadallah
Palestine, Local, 8/18/1998
The Hamas movement has expressed suspicion yesterday in the Palestinian government's story relating to the escape of Imad Awadallah who was accused of killing Mohyiddin Sharif, a military official of Hamas movement.
Awadallah escaped Saturday from a Palestinian prison in Jericho with an intensive search following that did not produce Awadallah who had been detained since April in connection with Sharif's death
In a press statement released by Hamas yesterday, the movement laid the responsibility for Awadallah's safety on the Palestinian and Israeli security bodies, after the Palestinian police announced previously that Awadallah, was able to escape on Saturday from prison.
The Palestinian government imposed a curfew on Jericho on Sunday, the first time since 1994, in which the police have imposed a curfew on a region under their control.
Palestinian and Israeli security forces began a wide investigation Sunday to look for Awadallah, where Palestinian security chief Jibril Rajoub said that the investigation has began immediately after the escape process.
