French diplomats meet their Egyptian counterpart on peace initiative
Egypt-France, Politics, 8/17/1998

Within the work group that was formed in July during the visit of Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa to Paris for discussing the demands of convening a peace rescue conference in the Middle East, Egyptian and French diplomats are meeting next week.

The meeting comes within Egyptian - French - US consultations that study the status of the peace process.

A diplomatic source in Cairo said today that, "The target is to finally reach an international position that deals with the Israeli attempt to defeat the peace process and a position toward the failure of the presented initiatives for achieving an advancement in the peace process.

The sources also said that Syria is relieved about the Egyptian - French initiative because the initiative is based on international resolutions, the Madrid's terms of reference and the land for peace principle, in addition to acknowledging the peace process on all tracks.
