Moroccan and Spanish interior ministers meet in Tangiers
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 8/15/1998

The Moroccan and Spanish interior ministers, Driss Basri and Jaime Mayor Oreja, held in Tangiers on Thursday a work session.

The two ministers then visited the port of Tangiers where they inquired on the facilities available at this port, which Moroccans living in Europe use as a transit point on their way home for the summer holidays. The "transit" operation starts around June 15 and ends on August 15. Up to August 13, 652,123 passengers and 149,317 have made the journey between Algesiras, southern Spain, and Ceuta and Tangiers, northern Morocco.

Moroccan-Spanish talks also covered various aspects of bilateral cooperation.

At a press briefing they gave following the talks, the two ministers praised the good cooperation existing between the two Mediterranean countries, mainly regarding the transit operation both at the Spanish and Moroccan borders.
