Iraq threatens legal action if Turkey continues building river dams

The Iraqi government threatened yesterday to try Turkey if the latter continues with its plans to build dams on the Degla and Euphrates rivers, as these dams could affect the flow of water to Iraq and Syria.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi weekly newspaper El-Zawraa reported that Iraqi minister of irrigation Mahmud Dhiyab al-Ahmad said Iraq will takeTurkey to trial if the latter insists on its current policy regarding river water resources, which causes great harm to Syria and Iraq.
The newspaper added that Iraq will face a dangerous problem if Turkey continues building its irrigation projects.
Al-Ahmad stated that a Syrian delegation will visit Iraq during the coming month to discuss the dispute over water distribution.
