Syrian strangled in Jordan
Jordan-Syria, Judicial, 8/14/1998
Syrian citizen Fateh Rajaeddine Jalasi 36 was executed on Thursday at dawn in Jordan, just seven months after he was convicted to death, after he was found guilty for a crime in June, 1997 that claimed the life of another Syrian citizen, his wife and their child.
A Jordanian security source said the execution was carried out at Sawaqa rehabilitation center, 60 km south of Amman.
On January 22, 1998, Jalasi was convicted of killing Jamal al-Majzoub, his wife Manal and their son Khaled (2) provoked by revenge over financial disputes between the killer and Jamal's father who lives in Syria.
This is the first death penalty carried out in Jordan in 1998. Some 11 persons were executed in 1997, including three women.
