Israel shells south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 8/13/1998
Israeli occupation forces on Wednesday bombarded with heavy artillery Lebanese villages and towns adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon. The bombardment was accompanied with mopping up operations in the targeted areas.
In retaliation, the Lebanese national resistance attacked two Israeli positions in Sujoud and Talat Al-Radar. The resistance forces clashed with elements of the latter Israeli position. Direct hits were achieved.
In the morning the occupation troops targeted with heavy artillery shells al-Zahrani river, and surroundings of Aqmata farm. The shelling came from the Israeli position in al-Zaffata. News reports from south Lebanon said that artillery bombardment coincided with mopping up operations in the targeted areas.
Meanwhile, the Israeli forces had taken a series of preventive measures in all their positions in the occupied part of south Lebanon. Security reports from south Lebanon revealed that such preventive measures were taken to prevent Lebanese breaking into the occupied positions, similar to the operation carried out on Sunday when a Lebanese resistance fighter infiltrated the Israeli occupation position in Sujoud, hoisting the resistance flag.
Further reports said the Israeli marine forces delayed a trade ship loaded with sedan cars off the coast of Sidon in south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli marines stopped the ship for half an hour before permitting it to sail to the port of Sidon.
