Libya, International, 8/12/1998
The Libyan news agency JANA on Tuesday said that "Moammar Gaddafi's award for human rights" was offered this year to the Cuban President Fidel Castro. The agency added that preparations are underway to deliver the award on August 30.
The award, which was established in 1989 and bears the name of the Libyan President, is estimated at $250,000. Since its foundation in 1989 Gaddafi human rights awards were presented to former Algerian President Ahmad Bin Bella, former Portuguese President Costa Gumiz, children of the Palestinian uprising (Intifada), "the American-Indian" nation, the African Center for Fighting AIDS, children of Bosnia and the African Federation for Human Rights.
