Israeli left set up their own radio
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/12/1998
Israeli left-wing activists have decided to set up a pirate radio station that would counter the campaign of Jewish settlers' radio, Channel 7.
Two Knesset members, Haim Ramon of the Labor Party and Dedi Tzucker of Meretz, initiated the station and chose Yaron London, a veteran journalist, to plan the broadcasts. To avoid Israeli government licensing procedures, the radio station will broadcast from an offshore ship that was used until recently to broadcast Oriental music.
Yaron London said they took the decision to set up the radio station "since we are fed up with extreme groups that take over radio stations in order to propagate their views. We are tired of being the goody-goody leftists."
