King Hassan condemns U.S. embassies bombings
Morocco-USA, Politics, 8/11/1998
King Hassan II condemned on Monday the latest twin-bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in a condolence message addressed to U.S. president Bill Clinton.
"It is with deep sadness and great emotion that we have learnt the heinous twin crime perpetrated against the embassies of your country in Kenya and Tanzania," said the sovereign in his message.
"We firmly condemn this barbarous act and we share your pain and that of the friendly American people"', added the Moroccan monarch, expressing sympathy and solidarity with the families of the victims.
King Hassan II has sent similar messages to presidents Daniel Arap Moi of Kenya and Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania. The king expressed solidarity with these two African countries and decried the terrorist bombings which claimed human lives.
About 223 people have been killed and 5,000 others were injured in the two explosions, which occurred minutes apart in Kenya's capital Nairobi and Tanzania's capital Dar es Salaam last Friday.
